Gimik was a Filipino teen drama series aired and produced by ABS-CBN. The series aired from June 15, 1996 until February 13, 1999.

Reruns will air on November 19,2011 on its International Channel Cinema One Global Saturdays part of its new revamped channel.

Development

The Teen-Oriented show was consisted of Star Magic Talents of the 1st Millenium it also paved way for other Teen Programs such as F.L.A.M.E.S (which aired Sundays) and weekday afternoons internationally through TFC throughout 1996-2003 and reaired through January 2007-December 2007 through KPTV Kapamilya Channel (2007-2011) now renamed as BRO (The Channel for Men only) and the Hit TV series Buttercup, from 2001-2003. the show also became rival to TGIS from August 1995-November 27,1999 a distributed Teen Oriented TV rival show distributed by GMA-7 and Viva Television Both TV programs had films and spin-offs.

Origins

The series was originally created as part of ABS-CBN's 40th Anniversary. The series, which was patterned Beverly Hills, 90210[1], first aired June 15, 1996. Gimik originally aired on 4 pm, Saturdays. The show last aired on February 13, 1999 in ABS-CBN. [2]

Additional Cast

Several Star Magic actors made guest appearances in the show. In 1999, the show was revamped and the characters of Rica Peralejo, Baron Geisler, Kristine Hermosa, Paula Peralejo, Dominic Ochoa, Carlos Agassi, Laura James, John Lloyd Cruz and Cheska Garcia where added. Rica Peralejo also joined Gimik. Diego Castro later left the show.

Film Adaptation

A film adaptation title Gimik: The Reunion was later made, retaining all the main characters. Judy Ann Santos made a special appearance as her character Dianne Villaruel in the latter part of the film. Kristine Hermosa and Dominic Ochoa, a regular cast since 1998, made a cameo appearance in the film. In Gimik: The Reunion, Kristine Hermosa portrayed a different character, a girl named as Sweetiepie — Joey's other girlfriend while chatting on the internet, while Dominic Ochoa portrayed the role of a Taxi Driver instead of reprising the role of Eric Abesamis.

Gimik 2010

In the ABS-CBN 2010 Trade Launch, the station announced that the show will return on television with the title of Gimik 2010.
